What does the distinction between topological properties and geometric/geographic properties mean?

Topology refers to generic spatial properties of shapes and spaces. In GIS, this usually means what is connected to what and what sort of shapes we are dealing with (concave, convex, connected, with or without holes, etc.). Geometric and geographic properties refers to size, distance, how objects overlap or contain other objects, etc.
