1. This impromptu session originated several years ago when some fans of a certain sociologist were disappointed to find him not on the program. Each year we look around for someone not on the program who is beginning to work on something interesting. We gather late one evening, maybe share some wine, and "think with" the presenter as s/he holds forth on where s/he thinks the project has been and is going. The spirit is collaborative (hence, leave your swords at the door) but the atmosphere gets as heady as the attendees care to make it. At this event, nobody pitches their own book disguised as a question. We practice what has been called "iteration forward" feedback.
