Page Point Nine System
To simplify the act of referring to a particular part of a text ("third line of first full paragraph on page 7…") we will use the "page point nine" system. We visually divide the page up into nine zones — the first line(s) are at 1, the last at 9. The middle of the page is 5 and the middle of the lower half is 7. When we want to refer to a passage we indicate what page it is on and where on the page it is. Thus, if we say "the passage at 6.4" we mean the passage just above the middle of the page on page 6. The approximate numbering of page locations on a sample page is shown below:
