…to get served? …to be treated like a native? …to be trusted?

In any environment one might find oneself asking this question. The second half of it is usually some variation on "be treated like a citizen" of the social milieu. The question comes up because up to that point there is a sense, in any given social environment, that it is OK to treat outsiders in a manner that would simply not be acceptable for insiders. And so the question is what signals do I need to send to show that I am OK.
